Rock and Roll in the Aisles With Return to the Forbidden Planet

Published: 29th August 2017 15:55

Final preparations are underway for Neston Players and Hip & Harmony choir member Bethany D'Avincourt as she gets ready to perform in a much loved, feel-good rock and roll musical on the Theatr Clwyd stage in Mold.

Bethany is in the final weeks of rehearsals for the smash hit musical ‘Return To The Forbidden Planet' by Bob Carlton with Tip Top Productions, who are based in Chester. This will be staged at Theatr Clwyd from 13th - 16th September at 7.30pm, with a matinee performance at 2.30pm on Saturday 16th September.

After choreographing and singing in the hugely successful Neston Players and Hip & Harmony joint community production of ‘For The Love of It' at Neston Civic Hall in July, Bethany went straight into an intensive rehearsal period for this all-singing, all-dancing musical.

Loosely based on the cult 1956 science fiction film ‘Forbidden Planet' and William Shakespeare's ‘The Tempest', ‘Return To The Forbidden Planet' has been described as "Shakespeare's forgotten rock and roll masterpiece" and is jam packed with well known songs of the ‘50s and ‘60s, including ‘Great Balls of Fire', ‘Good Vibrations', ‘Shake, Rattle and Roll', ‘Only The Lonely' and ‘All Shook Up' plus many many more. It is being directed for Tip Top by Peter Swingler OBE, with musical direction by Tim Jones and choreography by Pam Evans-Hughes.

Speaking about the preparations for the show Bethany said: "We've had an absolute ball in rehearsals, the phrase ‘time flies when you're having fun' definitely applies and we're all really looking forward to taking the show to Theatr Clwyd.

"The plan is for the audience to have as much fun watching the show as we've had putting it together and so dancing in the aisles will be encouraged!"
