Neston's free sports programme has been extended thanks to a further grant from the National Lottery Awards for All fund.
In May 2008 Neston Parish Church set up "Youth in the Community". It was established to promote an environment to work with young people in the area by giving them access to projects which are aimed at helping them reach their potential and so contribute in a positive way to the community.
Since its inception we have run free regular fitness and sports programmes for young people aged between 6 and 16 years originally starting with cage soccer in Stanney Park, basketball and at the present time, non-contact boxing.
Over the years we have obtained funding so that we are able to offer free sessions to all who attend and over the last couple of years we have added an adult sport and fitness programme for parents and young adults.
NEW sport fitness programme for young females
The project has been funded by the National Lottery and we are pleased to say that they have just awarded us a further 12 month grant to continue the project and to also offer a sport fitness programme for young females to help with fitness, build confidence and self esteem, relieve stress and help with socialisation.
We run our project every Thursday in term-time at the Neston Community and Youth Centre, Burton Road, Neston, CH64 9RE from 6pm - 7pm for 6 - 10 years, and from 7pm - 8pm for 11 - 16 year olds.
The adult classes are held in a separate room from 6 - 7pm. Our young female class will be from 7 - 8pm.
All classes are free, run by qualified coaches from the UTS foundation. We are grateful to NCYC for their support over the years and to the National lottery, Awards for All, for funding the project for a further 12 months and for their continued support and help.
We are off on Thursday 22nd February for half term and restart on Thursday 1st March.
