Witness Appeal Following Serious Assault in Neston

Published: 26th March 2018 16:57

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a 26-year-old man was seriously assaulted at a block of flats in Neston.

Walking home alone from the town centre on Friday 23 March, he noticed two men walking behind him on Raby Park Road. After opening the communal door to the block of flats on Shakespeare Road, he walked up steps and was then attacked as he attempted to gain entry to his flat.

The attack at around 9pm saw one of the men hitting him with a metal bar.  The victim was taken to hospital but has since been discharged.

Detective Constable Beverley James said: "This is believed to be an unprovoked assault in which nothing was stolen and I would like to reassure residents that this appears to be an isolated incident.

"The victim was left with serious injuries and we are determined to catch those responsible and bring them to justice."

The man who carried out the assault and the man who was with him are described as being around 6' tall and in their mid-20s. They both had a slim build and were wearing a black balaclava and dark clothing.

DC James added: "If you witnessed the attack, saw two men following the victim or entering or leaving the block of flats around that time or have any other information that may help with our investigation then please get in touch. Call Cheshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 17717, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

How can the police assure us its an "isolated incident" if it was unprovoked and they don't know who did it ?

Also in the last few weeks I see a flat that faces Raby Park Road has had all its windows smashed in and is now boarded up. Was that an isolated incident ?

I see comments are disappearing again. Not to worry as it wasn't important enough to ask for it to be reinstated but would love to know what exactly it was that crossed the line.

I will reinstate it when I've finished writing this. I saw that it had been reported, but as I've said before, I have no way of knowing who has reported a comment. In this case, as I knew I had a meeting involving the police coming up on Weds night, I thought I'd wait and see if it was mentioned then. It wasn't, so I'm now happy to put it back up.

If the person who reported the comment would like to contact me to explain their reason, I can then consider that. Otherwise, it remains.

It wasn't that important but thanks. I was just curious how the police can say for certain that it is an isolated incident when they don't know who did it or why, and when there has visibly been other trouble around that part of Neston.

It wasn't a loaded question but I have friends and family in that immediate area who are worried about these events, the cars being broken into and the increase in gangs of youths as the days get longer. I won't say its getting worse, but its certainly not getting better.

I visited Neston cemetery on Raby Park Road last Saturday morning and saw that a car parked in the parking area outside the cemetery gates and belonging to one of the properties opposite the cemetery, had been vandalised with the windscreen smashed in 2 or 3 places and a number of house bricks from a nearby skip lying close by.
