Runcorn Mum sets up 'Virtual Community Centre'.

The new community website celebrates it's launch

Runcorn Mum sets up "Virtual Community Centre"

A Runcorn mum has launched a new website dedicated to making local information available to her neighbours.
Focussing entirely on the postcode where she lives, Tina Taylor believes the site at www.aboutmyarea.co.uk/WA7 will bring the community closer by letting people know exactly what is happening on their doorstep.
Tina who has two children, the eldest age 6 and youngest just 9 months old, was looking for a flexible career whereby she could work around her family life and have the opportunity to work from home and get involved with the local community.
"I needed something that I would find interesting but that would fit in with childcare. There is so much information available in the local community, I wanted to get it all together in one place and I found this was the ideal platform."
With the guidance and support of the Enterprising Halton Programme, she joined the Aboutmyarea team and is now dedicated to getting out and about in her local community.
Aboutmyarea.co.uk highlights news from local postcode areas and gives local community groups, charities and businesses a voice, no matter how small they are. Tina explains: "Since starting the site, I have met many interesting people and found out about lots of local information and community groups. It is amazing what is out there if you are looking for it. So far, I have had a fantastic response from the local community and I am now working on getting the site more well known in my area. I want the people of WA7 to be able to contribute and really feel a part of the local community."
The community website for Runcorn was launched on Thursday 1st May. Site Editor, Tina Taylor has been working on the site for a few months in preparation for the big day. The launch of www.AboutMyArea/WA7 was held at the Heath Business & Technical Park and was a success on the day. A competition was held for tickets to Cineworld and wine and chocolates were on offer to all who stopped by.

Pictured above on either side of Tina are Mary McNally, the Enterprise Development Officer and Eric Hudson , the Executive Vice Chair of the Halton Chamber of Commerce who were both there on the Aboutmyarea launch day.

It is great to see a site launched where everything can be found in one place and also gives a voice to all organisations in the Community however large or small. It will certainly be in my favourite list!
