The Event
UK Triathlon are pleased to announce the inaugural South West Triathlon which is taking place on Sunday 12th July. This new and exciting venue is Caldicot, a historic Welsh coastal town situated close to the Severn bridge, easily accessible from South Wales and the South West region of England. The event is aimed at all abilities and fitness levels, from complete novice to club and pro triathlete, as well as charity and fun competitors. All entrants receive the free quality official race T-shirt and there are prizes for top 3 male and female in both the Fun & Sprint competitions as well as age group prizes in the Sprint Triathlon and general spot prizes.
The Course
The race starts from the 20 metre heated indoor pool in the leisure centre, followed by a one lap cycle course which heads out towards the town of Chepstow, in the Monmouthshire countryside, before returning to Caldicot for the final discipline. The run is around the leisure centre playing fields, the course is 2 laps for The Fun Triathlon and 4 laps for the Sprint and Relay Triathlon. The course is spectator friendly and all the action can be seen at the rear of the Leisure Centre where the main transition area and finish line are situated.
For the Triathlon all you will need is
Swimming goggles (not compulsory but recommended), swimming costume or trunks, bicycle (must be road worthy), cycle helmet & running shoes or trainers.
Getting there & staying over
The venue is ideally situated on the South Wales coast and close to both the M4, M48 and approximately 15 miles from Bristol. Parking is available at the school adjacent to the centre as well as at the town centre car parks (also ideal for shopping and sight seeing!). There are ample toilets, showers and baby changing facilities at the centre. There is a cafe and bar serving a selection of hot and cold meals and beverages.
