Conwy Primary School Modernisation - Overview
Conwy Local Authority will be undertaking a full review of all its Primary schools over the next year. This is your opportunity to contribute to the shape of Conwy schools in the future. Conwy Authority is committed to meeting the challenges facing Education Services over the coming years, ensuring that:
There are three key factors that are driving the need to consider the organisation of Primary schools within Conwy: Falling pupil numbers and increasing unfilled Primary school places Conwy currently has 2,029 unfilled Primary schools places, and this figure is expected to rise to 2917 by 2012. This means that by 2012:
Unequal funding for pupils across Conwy schools Across Conwy Primary schools the spend per pupil ranges from £2691 to £6990 per pupil. If we look at 2007/08 financial year, School A with 48 pupils received £3706 funding per pupil and School B with 21 pupils received £6766 funding per pupil. This means that in School B the pupils were each receiving £3060 more, compared to the funding per pupil in School A. Ensuring that Conwy Primary schools are 'fit for purpose' The Authority is committed to its strategy to ensure all school buildings are 'fit for purpose', in line with Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) standards. The key criteria when undertaking the audit of buildings for the plans are; building condition and security, capacity issues (including pupil capacity / site capacity / curriculum needs), disability access and community use.
