Testimonials
""The 'AboutMyAreaBT23' web site is showing that it really is a community site and I'm delighted to see this group coming together to run - and to walk - in the Race for Life, I hope more women will come forward to join them, but remember if you can't take part, you can still show your support by sponsoring the team and, through them, help a very worthy cause in Cancer Research UK"."
- Councillor Angus Carson, Mayor of Ards

About Us

Hello from the AboutMyArea team!
                                                                                                            contact us

AboutMyArea is a web based community ‘one stop shop' for what goes on in your area. We are community focused and run our areas on a post code basis.

In August 2006, the first community website of its kind, launched to the internet for the BT23 community.

Since its inception, AboutMyArea has grown from strength to strength, providing local charities, clubs, churches, schools and all ‘not for profit' organisations you can think of, a chance for FREE publicity to not only local people, but to users of the world wide web.

We say FREE in capitalised form for some very good reasons:

  • Whenever we first approach local organisations, they really do have difficulty believing the word FREE
  • We never have, nor will we ever levy a charge for this service to any ‘not for profit' organisations
  • Whenever someone sees or hears the word FREE, they automatically start to look for a ‘catch', sorry to disappoint, but there is NO ‘catch'

We could go on and on, but we are sure you can see what we mean!

The AboutMyArea concept is quite simple; we provide FREE publicity for all kinds of groups, which they sometimes struggle to find, to let the local residents know what is going on in their community. We would generally approach an organisation and ask them to provide us with some form of introductory paragraph (or set of encyclopaedias - it really is up to them!) along the lines of a Who, What, Why, Where, When and invite them to provide any logos or photographs which they use, purely to make their ‘piece' more appealing to the surfer.

We then post that information onto the AboutMyArea website and only ask that the group concerned keep us up to date with their events, we then add that information to the AboutMyArea calendar of events (which is on the top left hand side of the website) for  local people to see what's on during the year so that they can participate if it is of interest.

There really are no limits as to how any ‘not for profit' organisations may use the AboutMyArea websites. Any function that you can see on the website e.g. jobs, can be used by such groups for FREE!

Let's be honest here, do you really know what is going on in your community? Do you think that you know of all the local good causes, churches, voluntary work, clubs and organisations, support groups etc? An honest reply from your AboutMyArea team would have initially been quite a bold ‘yes'. Having started to actively contact these groups/ people we have found that we were very wrong! Even living and participating in the community for over thirty years didn't prepare us for all the hard work in the community by local people and volunteers, never mind all the various things that are going on! We are still encountering more new groups as each week passes.

AboutMyArea is here to give these groups the publicity that they so rightly deserve and to encourage input and assistance from the community of people around them. The concept of AboutMyArea was initially started in England and has grown very rapidly in the two years that it has been running.

Why should our community be devoid of such a positive feature? Now you know why we started AboutMyArea for our community!

We are pleased that you are visiting this AboutMyArea site and taking the time to find out what is going on in this community. Let's face it, we live here, we do our shopping here and we all play a part in our local community, no matter how small you think that may be. You are already playing an important role by browsing this site, you may come across something of interest to you in many of our pages.

The website is normally updated on a daily basis and we are keen to keep the website up to date for all our users to enjoy. We are always glad to hear from surfers and groups alike regarding the website and its contents, even if it is only a quick line in an e-mail or details of someone/group who you think could benefit from the service which we provide.

On a last note, we would like to congratulate those local businesses which advertise on these websites and support the local communities by doing so. Their contribution enables us to keep you up to date and also allows your community to benefit from the services we provide, so please ‘click' on their adverts to see what they have of interest to you. Don't feel shy about telling them you saw their ad on AboutMyArea and congratulate them on their community spirit and support.
