If you are travelling to Silverstone for the British Grand Prix, please leave any valuables at home if you don’t need to bring them to the event.

And police are also advising to keep satnav systems at home – while the racing drivers might be using the newest technology to navigate the Grand Prix, satnavs will be rendered useless by the traffic plan for the event.

A satnav could well take you down a blind eye – leave the satnav behind, follow the route information signs for Silverstone to stay on the right track.

Superintendent Sean Bell, the event commander, said: “The one-way system and the local road closures for the event will render the satnav ineffective so please leave them behind if you are coming to the Grand Prix.

“They are also a desirable piece of kit for an opportunist thief so by not leaving them in your car or accommodation you also reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime.

“If you really can’t go without the satnav, then we would advise you to remove it from the vehicle and keep it with you at all times.

The A43 between Towcester and Syresham will be closed on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the Grand Prix weekend to accommodate the race traffic.

One-way systems will be in place to funnel traffic into the circuit and diversion routes are in place for all other traffic wanting to avoid the Silverstone area.

The main regional diversion route for traffic that would ordinarily use the A43 to travel between the M1 and M40 on Friday morning and evening is as follows:

  • M1 Junction 15 – A508 to Stony Stratford – A422 to Buckingham – A421 to join the A43 south of Brackley – A43 to M40 Junction 10
  • M40 Junction 10 – A43 to A421 turn – A421 to Buckingham – A422 to Stony Stratford – A508 to M1 Junction 15.

Speaking to AboutMyArea/NN12 Matthew Croft said "Croft Stores are located in Stocks Hill, Silverstone with parking outside, we are a ten minute walk from Silverstone Circuit which is hosting the F1 British Grand Prix with people already here but with many arriving every day until the actual race on Sunday.

"We cater for the local community to supply as many services and products as possible but also to visitors to the MotoGP, British F1 Grand Prix, Silverstone Classic and all the other events held at the circuit.

"Even when there are major events at the circuit we don't change our prices.

"Many people camp at the big events, in all weathers! We have all at the things they might have forgotten or need, spare batteries, charcoal, matches all the little things like tin openers, pegs, clothes pegs, you name it we'll have it.

"Of course we have a wide range of foods too, and opening at 5.30 am every day means we can supply everything for a hearty breakfast!"

Croft Stores are at  Stocks Hill, Silverstone NN12 8UW or telephone: 01327 857 751.
