International landmine clearance charity MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is inviting daredevils to take a two-mile high leap to support its life-saving programmes worldwide.

At an event being held at Lancaster airfield in May fundraisers can take part in the once-in-a-lifetime jump for free, providing they raise the minimum sponsorship target.

After standing at the plane's doorway at 10,000ft, feeling the rush of wind and hearing the sound of the engines, divers freefall halfway before pulling the chute.

Then begins the gentle float to the landing site, watching the patchwork of fields grow as you quietly descend. Quiet, that is, except for your own excited screams.

The jumps can be done with an instructor or solo, with participants gaining official training in the first stages of skydiving.

Cat Smith, MAG's Public Fundraising Officer said: "This is an exhilarating way to raise money for a really good cause. MAG spends 90 per cent of all money raised directly on clearing deadly landmines and other dangerous explosives, so the money you raise could quite easily save someone's life. Sign up today!"
