"Hi Emma We visited Strutts Mill for world heritage day even the 'teenages' had to admit it was very interesting. We were too late for the river gardens tour but your site has filled that gap. I've also used your map to pass on. Thanks."

The Amber Valley PPI

Published: 1st September 2006 23:49
Amber Valley Patient and Public Involvement Forum are seeking new volunteer members to join them.
The commitment from an individual is approximately 2-3 hours per week, but this is flexible. Out of pocket expenses are paid. There are many opportunities to receive in-house training. No experience is required, and anyone is eligible to join.

The forum is independent from the NHS, but does work in partnership with them in many capacities, and networks with many other organisations such as the local council, social services and other community groups.

The remit of the Forum is to monitor and review the local healthcare services, gather the views of the local population on all aspects concerning health. The Forum develop a working strategy which is added to its annual work plan.

Some of the issues the Forum are working on are:

1. Out of Hours
2. NHS Direct
3. Monitoring movement of local health care services within the Amber Valley
due to the new 'County PCT'.

4. Monitoring the reconfiguration of Amber Valley into the new County Trust.
5. Reviewing GP Practices - i.e.Appointment systems.
6. Being in consultation about 'Heanor Healthcare Review' i.e.Minor Injuries Unit.
7. Networking with such groups as 'Me & U Project' and the Interagency Group via the Borough Council.
8. The lack of Community Equipment (wheelchairs).
9. Mens' Health.
10. Health Inequalities.

The Forum requires more MEMBERS to join the Forum - so it can increase its profile and carry out the work it is undertaking at the moment.

The Forum is looking for Community groups to interlink with them and work on similar issues and attend local events, clubs etc.
The Forum has statatory powers to recommend changes within any healthcare facility.

The more members we have on board - the BIGGER VOICE the local community has over the new 'Patient Led NHS'.

If you are interested in joining the Forum and are interested in local community healthcare, then please contact;
