Belper Civic Forum

SAVING Belper's heritage will be high on the agenda at the next meeting of the town's Civic Forum to be held on Thursday (April 19).
Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting at 8pm in Belper School, at which nationally-renowned speaker Adam Wilkinson will head a debate on issues relating to the town's past - and its future.
Adam is Secretary of SAVE Britain's Heritage. He is also secretary of SAVE's buildings preservation trust, the SAVE Trust, and Save Europe's Heritage.
SAVE Britain's Heritage was founded in 1975 to campaign publicly for threatened historic buildings and areas and on the issues that affect the historic built environment across the UK.
Through its campaigns, SAVE has brought to public awareness the fate of numerous building types, from country houses to public lavatories, railway stations to great Victorian hospitals, churches to lunatic asylums, court houses to terraced houses.
SAVE focuses on the viable reuse of historic buildings, viewing them not simply as set architectural pieces but as parts of the fabric of our society and wider environment.
Before the meeting, members of the Civic Forum will be showing Adam areas of Belper and Milford currently in the spotlight and seeking his views on how the forum can contribute to a better future for the town.
Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting at 8pm. The forum's annual general meeting for members only takes place an hour earlier at 7pm.
