Melbourne Operatic Society has about 30 members drawn from
Melbourne, Castle Donington and the surrounding area.
We meet on Tuesday evenings at the Public Hall in Melbourne.
Shows
The Mikado 2007Our main event of the year is the performance of a Gilbert and Sullivan opera in late March / April. We perform in the hall of Castle Donington Community College, which provides us with a well equipped stage and plenty of room for our orchestra and a large audience.
Concerts
We also stage concert work, performing our own concerts in the Bill Shone Leisure Centre at Melbourne in June / July and at Christmas. We can also provide concerts for other organisations in the area. Concerts usually include some Gilbert and Sullivan, frequently as a taster for our next show, but the material covers a wide range, including popular songs and musicals of the last 50 years.
Joining Us
We are always on the look-out for new singing members. Whilst previous experience is desirable, it is not essential. Shows cannot be put on without an enormous amount of help, front of house and backstage, from non-singing supporters. If you are interested in either of these roles, please contact us. We pride ourselves on being a very friendly society and you may be assured of a warm welcome.
Supporting Us
The Sorcerer 2006If you would like to support the Society without becoming a singing member, why not become a Patron, or if you have a business perhaps you would like to advertise in our show programme.
