Donington Park Announces Appointment of Sir Rodney Walker

Donington Park have announced the appointment of Sir Rodney Walker as Non-Executive Chairman of Donington Holdings Plc.

Donington Park welcome bannerDonington Park welcome banner Sir Rodney will formally take up his new role upon the successful completion of Donington's current fund raising process and the 66-year-old brings a wealth of experience in the Chairmanship of prestigious sporting venues and institutions. He is currently the Chairman of Goals Soccer Centres plc and the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association.

Until last year, Sir Rodney was Chairman of Spice plc; during his five year tenure, Spice plc pursued a successful growth strategy, having listed on AIM in 2004.

In addition, Sir Rodney was formerly the Chairman of GB Sports Council (1994-96), Sport England (1996-98), Brands Hatch Leisure plc (1996-99), Manchester Commonwealth Games (1998-00) Donington Park Estates (1999-05) and Wembley National Stadium (2000-02).

Simon Gillett, CEO of Donington Park, commenting on Sir Rodney's appointment, said:

"We welcome the appointment of Sir Rodney to the Board. His experience in the stewardship of dynamic growth companies and knowledge of the management of sporting venues and sporting associations will be invaluable. His appointment is the first of a few key executive and non-executive appointments we hope to announce in the coming weeks."

Sir Rodney Walker, commenting on his appointment, said:

"I welcome this opportunity to return to Donington and support the management team in their strategy to establish Donington as the home of British motorsport. I look forward to playing my part in the delivery of world-class motorsport facilities at Donington, the new home of the FIA Formula One British Grand Prix for the next seventeen years."
