'DON'T SWITCH' recommendation changed to 'SWITCH NOW!''
The MoneySavingExpert.com traffic light changes to GREEN
Having been on red for 'don't switch' for the last few months, the MoneySavingExpert.com traffic light has now turned to green for 'SWITCH'!
Martin Lewis, creator of consumer revenge website MoneySavingExpert.com, says:
Time to switch!
"For months I've been saying don't switch, as with a raft of gas and electricity price rises due, compare prices and it was likely the cheapest would announce a price rise the next day. Now E.ON's hiked gas prices by 15% and electricity prices by 9.7%.
"It is the fifth of the big six providers to up its prices. The only major player which hasn't hiked its prices yet is Scottish & Southern, which has frozen tariff increases until 30 March, and is likely to up prices soon after this freeze ends.
"Yet rather than waiting another six weeks, better to compare, switch and save now. But if Scottish & Southern or one of its brands - Atlantic, SWALEC, Scottish Hydro and Southern Electric - comes out as the cheapest, avoid it as it's a false winner, with price rises still due."
There are hidden deals too: find the cheapest supplier and grab up to £30 cashback or a crate of wine
"It only takes five minutes to switch energy supplier, saving you up to 20%, plus there's a way to get paid to do it. The easy way to switch is via a free comparison service; just tell it where you live and how big your bills are and it'll tell you who's cheapest. If it can switch you, you'll get paid cashback or get freebies on top. The sheer size of MoneySavingExpert.com also means that if you go to the comparison services via links on it, rather than going direct, they'll give a cut of their revenue back to customers in the form of a crate of wine; or up to £30 cashback when switching."
