Drayton Manor was opened first to the public by the current owners, the Bryan family, in 1950 after co-founders, husband and wife, George and Vera Bryan, converted 80 acres of land covered with 4ft-high brambles, mounds of rubbish, old army huts and pastureland into a wonderful family attraction.
Today, the park, which is amongst the grounds of what was once the home of former British Prime Minister Sir Robert Peel and family, features some of the biggest, wettest and scariest rides in the UK.

He and seven lucky VIPs also became the first to ride the awesome shockwave - Europe's only stand-up rollercoaster.Colin Bryan, Drayton Manor's managing director, said: "This was a great opening weekend and I'm glad so many people came and had a wonderful time on the rides and in the zoo."
In April 2007, Drayton Manor unveilled a new ride - The Bounty. Visitors better make sure they have their sea legs before getting on. This beautifully themed fibreglass boat, which is made to look as if it has been constructed from old wooden planks, starts with a smooth back and forth swinging motion above the lake. As it increases in speed, the swinging results in an angle of up to 75 degrees and riders experience sensations of rocking motion and relative weightlessness.
