Sign the Don't Destroy Donington Online Petition
| Published: 11th February 2010 01:36 |
A new online petition objecting to the planning application for 975 new homes in Castle Donington is now live.
The Park Lane Action Group (PLAG), formed by local residents to oppose the development of land off Park Lane, are leading the Don't Destroy Donington campaign. The group have opened an online petition to give locals an opportunity to express their opposition to the proposals.
A PLAG spokesperson said:
"Please sign our petition and forward the details to anyone who may be interested in supporting our objection. You can access the petition here http://donington.epetitions.net/"
Members of PLAG will be at the Co-op on Trent Lane on Saturday 13th February to share information and discuss concerns. A paper petition will also be available to sign.

To "pollution" - did you know that the bus station AQMA monitor is already widely aclaimed as being THE most polluted part of North West Leicestershire, never mind Castle Donington ! Just imagine what the addition of a further ~1500-2000 extra cars, plus the additional buses required to ship their kids over to Shepshed will mean for pollution in the village if this Planning Application is approved....
Don't just write about it here - please send your comments to the NWLDC portal and see ref 09/01226/OUTM.
As Chair of the Park Lane Action group opposing this development, I would urge you to take a closer look at the planning application as suggested by other comments.
As a group we are not against development, but we are against proposed large scale developments that can potentially destroy our community.
As the proposal stands at the moment there are no committments by the developer to provide further infrastructure (schools, doctors, etc) to support the development and this will be covered under a section 106. The aim of the developer will be to minimise the amount of the financial burden under this section 106.
It is also probable that the development will take 5-10 years to complete and there are no guarantees as to when the relief road will be built, which in the short/medium term could lead to increased congestion. The Highways Agency and Leicestershire County Council already consider the initial Traffic Assessment submitted by the developer to be inadequate and have requested further clarification.
Thanks
Richard
