The Park Lane Action Group (PLAG),  formed by local residents to oppose the development of land off Park Lane, are leading the Don't Destroy Donington campaign.  The group have opened an online petition to give locals an opportunity to express their opposition to the proposals.

A PLAG spokesperson said:

"Please sign our petition and forward the details to anyone who may be interested in supporting our objection. You can access the petition here http://donington.epetitions.net/"

Members of PLAG will be at the Co-op on Trent Lane on Saturday 13th February to share information and discuss concerns.  A paper petition will also be available to sign.

Why are people objecting to the developement? I can only see it as improving the village if the loop road is developed that will take non village traffic away from the current main road. The plans also include added school and doctors facilities which can only benefit everyone. We should be happy the area is expanding and brininging in jobs. Change can be a good thing. People need places to live. ( ps. I have lived in the village for 37 years and every time change is proposed some people object and they tend to make more noise than the majority who probably are happy with the changes. )

I'm afraid you are naive in thinking the road will alleviate traffic from the current main road. Buses will still run through the village as well as the existing school traffic. Traffic will increase considerably due to the increase in residential and industrial units to the new site - 1500 houses could potentially mean 2500+/- extra cars wanting to access the village. Think about it! There are no concrete plans for a school or doctors. The Pegasus plans are a work of fiction at the minute. As for bringing in jobs, the existing businesses on Borough Street will suffer greatly, potentially closing with the loss of jobs due to the new employment area of the development. I can't believe you are happy with the already over developed eyesore industrial estates that are eating up our countryside!!

What has surprised me is that the area around the bus station is a Air Quality Management Area. This is very serious, why has the council not put up any warning signs. Do the people using this area know what this means to the health of the school children who use the school bus each morning.

Firstly, to Cathy Coupe - please go to the NWLDC portal and actually view the planning application. There are NO plans to provide additional social or environmental infrastructure to Castle Donington, despite what you may have heard. The road will not be built if the developer doesn't get planning for the homes either.
To "pollution" - did you know that the bus station AQMA monitor is already widely aclaimed as being THE most polluted part of North West Leicestershire, never mind Castle Donington ! Just imagine what the addition of a further ~1500-2000 extra cars, plus the additional buses required to ship their kids over to Shepshed will mean for pollution in the village if this Planning Application is approved....
Don't just write about it here - please send your comments to the NWLDC portal and see ref 09/01226/OUTM.

I will, but if the council say that 56% of the pollution at the bus station is coming from traffic, where is the other 44% of pollution coming from ?

Dear Cathy

As Chair of the Park Lane Action group opposing this development, I would urge you to take a closer look at the planning application as suggested by other comments.

As a group we are not against development, but we are against proposed large scale developments that can potentially destroy our community.

As the proposal stands at the moment there are no committments by the developer to provide further infrastructure (schools, doctors, etc) to support the development and this will be covered under a section 106. The aim of the developer will be to minimise the amount of the financial burden under this section 106.

It is also probable that the development will take 5-10 years to complete and there are no guarantees as to when the relief road will be built, which in the short/medium term could lead to increased congestion. The Highways Agency and Leicestershire County Council already consider the initial Traffic Assessment submitted by the developer to be inadequate and have requested further clarification.

Thanks

Richard
