"It is great to see the hotel reach this important milestone - the Radisson Blu East Midlands Airport will be one of the premier hotels in the region with first class facilities and the finest conference and meeting facilities in the area, thus supporting both business travellers and local businesses alike."
The full service hotel, which includes eight executive suites, restaurant, bar and leisure facilities has also been designed to be highly energy efficient. Speaking at the ceremony, David Roberts, MAG Developments' Property Development Director said:
"This project to deliver one of the UK's greenest commercial hotel developments is a huge step forward both for passengers and for the airport itself as a business destination. We are delighted that the build team has reached this significant milestone and look forward to celebrating the next one when the hotel opens this autumn."
Brad Miller, Managing Director East Midlands Airport said:
"We are delighted that the hotel is taking shape and the structure is now complete. Having a four star hotel on site is a huge step forward for the airport and one that will benefit passengers, local residents and businesses alike. We are equally proud of the environmental qualities of the hotel, which fit with our own carbon reduction targets, making it one of the ‘greenest' hotels in the UK."
The hotel reaffirms Rezidor's position as one of Europe's leading airport hotel operators with 27 hotels (7,096 rooms) currently in operation and a further 3 hotels (938 rooms) in the development pipeline.
