East Midlands Airport secured both Best Regional UK Airport and UK Airport of the Year at this year's British Travel Awards 2011, celebrating its fourth successive travel award win in less than three months.

Shortlisted organisations were first nominated by experts from the industry before being voted for on-line by the British public. In 2011, over 700,000 votes were cast with the results scrutinised and audited by Deloitte LLP.

East Midlands Airport was crowned Best Regional UK Airport ahead of 13 other airports; including Newcastle, Leeds Bradford and Belfast City Airports and successfully secured UK Airport of the Year against 17 other major airports; including London Heathrow, London Gatwick and Liverpool John Lennon Airports.

Brad Miller, Managing Director, East Midlands Airport said:

"We are truly honoured to have received two British Travel Awards, voted for by the UK's leading travel industry experts and those who are at the heart of everything we do - our customers.

"It's been an exciting year for East Midlands Airport having secured a new daily service to Frankfurt, a major European hub with worldwide connections, the installation of the UK's first commercial scale wind turbines at an airport, as well as constructing the UK's first hotel to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating, on the airport site.

"We continue to invest in the customer experience, delivering increased choice and flexibility for our passengers, whilst taking a personal, innovative and sustainable approach to everything we do. These awards undoubtedly play tribute to the efforts of all of our colleagues and travel partners in creating a customer journey that is both memorable and award winning."

British Travel Awards' Chief Executive Lorraine Barnes Burton said:

"The British Travel Awards is the largest awards programme in the UK, created to reward travel companies, with the winning accolade being the benchmark for excellence when it comes to finding out who really is the best in the business of travel for the UK consumer. This year the competition was fierce and East Midlands Airport is to be congratulated on their achievement."
