Radisson Blu at East Midlands Airport, designed to highest green credentials, has been chosen to host North West Leicestershire District Council's Green Footprints Awards annual civic ball on Friday 27 April 2012.
Now in their fourth year, the awards are run by North West Leicestershire District Council as part of its Green Footprints Challenge, championing eco-heroes from schools, youth groups, community projects and businesses who have met the challenge of choosing greener ways to live and work.
Daniel Keane, General Manager, Radisson Blu Hotel at East Midlands Airport, comments: "We're incredibly proud to be sponsoring the prestigious Green Footprints Awards and hosting the ceremony in our brand new hotel - the greenest in the country.
"As a ‘green' hotel we are very aware that going green really does make good business sense. But it also helps bring people together and can unite communities to improve their local environment. Not only are we hosting the awards, we've also been short-listed so we're hoping that our fantastic green credentials will see us walk off with an award! Joking aside, we are delighted to be supporting such a worthwhile initiative and to be part of the drive to make our communities a greener place to live and work."
The hotel boasts an energy performance certificate rating of 2, which is unprecedented in the hotel sector, producing 87% less carbon emissions than a conventional hotel. It's not only the greenest hotel in the East Midlands, it is the Rezidor Hotel Group's most environmentally friendly hotel in Europe.
Following an exceptional high standard of entries this year, three projects have been shortlisted in each of the five categories, recognising people and groups who have made an outstanding contribution to the environment in North West Leicestershire.

Councillor Trevor Pendleton, North West Leicestershire District Council's Portfolio Holder for Planning and Engagement, said: "In 2008, we set a challenge for the Council and our communities to take action to make the District a cleaner and greener place to live, work and visit. I'm delighted to say that over the last four years the District has made great strides in meeting that challenge and making a difference.
"The Green Footprints Awards are designed to publicly recognise and praise those people who have gone the extra mile to help protect our environment."
