Ride 2 Remember Team Set Off From Castle Donington

The launch of Ride 2 Remember 2012 charity cycle ride at Castle Donington Moto Services
A team of officers have set off on a 400 mile bike ride from Castle Donington Moto Services to Paris in memory of two Leicestershire officers who died in the line of duty.
The team of fourteen officers are cycling to the French National Police Memorial on the Champs Elysees in Paris in memory of Police Constables Bryan Moore and Andy Munn. The officers lost their lives on 15th August 2002 while trying to stop a driver on the A42 who had been pursued from Birmingham into Leicestershire. They both worked at Shepshed Police Station.
Three Chief Constables were at the launch on Friday 11th May 2012: Simon Cole from Leicestershire, Mick Creedon from Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire's Chief Constable, Chris Eyre.
Mr Cole and Mr Creedon joined the officers on the first leg of their journey to the memorial peace garden at Force Headquarter. The team of fourteen officers are continuing their journey to Paris with their back up crew.
PC 2040 Colin Gardner has been instrumental in organising the trip and is one of the ten officers taking part in the ride. He said; "It's great to get the first twenty four miles under our belt and now we are all really keen to get onto the next stage. There has been a great atmosphere this morning...roll on Paris!"
The team is raising money for the Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA) at the same time.
The officers have also organised a black tie Dinner Dance on 15th June 2012 at the Hilton Hotel, East Midlands Airport, Castle Donington. Tickets are on sale at £30 a head and are available by dialling 101 and, when prompted type, in collar number 4321 and leave a message. There will be a disco, raffle and an auction of gifts that have been generously donated by local companies. All money raised on the night will also go to the Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Rutland Air Ambulance and Care of Police Survivors (COPS).
