Passenger growth has dramatically risen for the eighth successive quarter at East Midlands Airport. The latest statistics show 1,195,747 passengers used East Midlands Airport in the first 3 months of 2008, a rise of 15.2% compared to 2007.
The Airport's extensive choice of destinations is helping to drive the impressive passenger growth. Four new routes have been introduced in 2008 including, Goa with First Choice, the Isle of Man with Manx2, Palma with easyjet and Warsaw with bmibaby, making March the 24th month of consecutive growth. The Airport's passenger traffic grew by 11.5% in March with 460,552 passengers travelling to and from the Airport.
The Easter period provided a seasonal ‘boost' to the numbers departing and arriving from East Midlands Airport, with a remarkable 95,000 people travelling over the Easter weekend, a rise of 7% compared to 2007.
Penny Coates, Managing Director, EMA said, "The significant increases demonstrate that passengers are embracing the destinations and routes available from East Midlands Airport."
