Members of the Castle Donington Parish Plan Steering Committee were very pleased to see 80 people at the launch of the Parish Plan to both residents and service providers.

Gary Roberts, Shaun Ambrose-Jones, Angus Sowter,
Peggy Beddoe, Malcolm Taylor, Sue Shearman,
Richard Haigh, Delia Astle-HaighThe evening started with a welcome drink, courtesy of The Donington Manor Hotel and was followed by a presentation outlining just some of the major actions residents are calling for.
These include: A feasibility study on a leisure centre being built in the village; true consideration for both the community and the environment with any proposed new development; protection and regeneration of the local heritage and conservation areas; more policing, CCTV at the bus station, lighting on the Spital and a clear policy to control and restrict unauthorised traveller encampments; a larger or second doctor's surgery and help and advice for teenagers on sexual health, giving up smoking and drug use; to educate our youngsters up to 16 or even 18 years of age right here in Castle Donington; a cessation or greater restriction on night flights. Plus additional/better traffic controls particularly during events at Donington Park.
The complete Action Plan will shortly be available in hard copy to read at the local schools, doctors' surgery, the Parish Council offices and the library. It is also available to read and download in full from the following websites:

Shaun Ambrose-Jones, Chair of the Parish Plan
Steering Committee, presents to a packed room at
the Donington Manor HotelThe Steering Committee are pleased to report that they have already received very positive feedback from the service providers. The Parish Council's response was hugely positive as with all the areas outlined as their responsibility all but one was already being worked on. The District Council was similarly positive in its responses.
Only Leicestershire County Council provided some disappointing responses particularly on two of the more contentious issues: Educating locally to 16/18 was something that was not going to be considered before 2013 and even then Donington might not be an area they change. Also on unauthorised traveller encampments the LCC believe the whole problem will be solved by building authorised camp sites. It was felt that the majority of people there disagreed with this concept.
The evening finished with a thank you to all who had attended, the service providers and special thanks to the 1,700 residents who took the two hours required to fill in the questionnaire.
The steering group will continue to meet to update and cajole future progress.
