Sidecar World Championship - second round
Donington Park, 24-25 May 08
Donington Park has stepped in at the eleventh hour to ensure that there will be a round of the World Sidecar Championship in Britain again this year.
The FIM had published a calendar showing only six rounds but the Leicestershire circuit has just concluded a deal to stage what will now be the second round of the seven race series on Saturday-Sunday 24-25 May.
The sidecar race, featuring the reigning champions Tim Reeves and Patrick Farrance, will be run on Sunday afternoon, following on immediately from the British Superbike qualifying session.
It means a hectic schedule for Reeves and Farrance, as they are also taking part in the Isle of Man TT races, for which practice begins over the same weekend as the World Championship race.
As newcomers to TT, they have to attend a briefing session on Friday, then fly back to Donington for the qualifying on Saturday, returning to the Island immediately after that session to take part in that evening's familiarisation practice on the Mountain Course.
"We are just sorting it all out at the moment," said Reeves. "Donington was not on the calendar when we agreed to the TT, but I am confident that we can work it out with the times and the flights."
The British Superbike races are being run on Bank Holiday Monday 26 May.
Donington Park now has a full range of World Championship action, including the MotoGP (22 June) and Superbikes (7 September), while the Red Bull Motocross of Nations (28 September) will also be held on the circuit in infield.
