Castle Donington Town FC vs Ripley FC - Sat 9 Feb 08

Published: 19th February 2008 13:00

Castle Donington Town FC 6 vs Ripley FC 0

Castle Donington Town FC put in their probable best performance of the season so far, at the weekend when the knocked out Premier side Ripley FC and booked their place into the semi-final of the Challenge Cup.

On a glorious day at Moira Dale and the pitch looking outstanding Town fancied their chances of a Quarter Final upset against the visitors who are sitting nicely at mid-table in the Midlands Regional Alliance. The Dons were quick out the traps and started very strongly and swiftly got the early lead they deserved on 4 minutes when Jack Purkis latched on to a  crossing header from Richard Fordham.

Top goal scorer Karl Munton doubled the home sides lead shortly after when a defence splitting pass eased him through a goal. Captain Tom Ballard made it a comfortable half for Town when he scored on 36 minutes, to make it an up hill struggle for the Premier line-up.

At half time Castle Donington were well aware that the game was theirs to lose and just needed to be tolerant. But Town started the second period just as well as the first and shut out any hopes of a Ripley reply when Tom Tribes second goal in as many games finished off the Quarter Final.

This four goal cushion gave Town to play some attractive football at looked like creating a goal scoring opportunity every time they went forward. On 67 minutes Jack Purkis made it five goals to the good and getting his eighteenth goal in eighteen games. Karl Munton rounded of a first-class performance from Castle Donington when he made it as staggering 6.0 to the home side and through to the Challenge Cup semi-final.

A special shout out has to go out for Doningtons defensive performance getting their first clean sheet since December with help from goal keeper Oliver Fordham and Man of the Match Simon Terry.

Castle Donington Town FC are without a game this week, but continue their pursuit of the league on Saturday the 24th of February at home against Woolley Moore United with a 2:30 kick off.
