World Sidecar Champions head entry for Motorcycle racing action MG Car Club headline 75th Anniversay celebrations 22-23-24 March
Eddie Hall under Starkeys Bridge at Donington ParkDonington Park powers into an exciting new season of circuit action with a busy programme of Easter fayre that features not only the appearance of British and World Sidecar racing champions but which also celebrates the 75th Anniversary of the first ever car race at the Leicestershire circuit.
Tim Reeves and Patrick Farrance begin the defence of their British crown in a double race opening round over Easter Saturday and Sunday, while on Easter Monday the MG Car Club hosts a busy meeting of ‘clubbie' action.
The significance of this meeting is that it spans the years - back in 1933, Saturday 25 March to be precise, the MG Car Club had the privilege of staging the first car race meeting in the Park.
Now 75 years on, almost to the day, they are back, celebrating this milestone in the history of Britain's oldest and newest Grand Prix circuit with a busy schedule of classic action, centering naturally enough on the MG marque.
They are intent on bringing back a Midget of the type that was driven to victory in that first race by Eddie Hall, who is pictured charging through the arch of Starkeys Bridge, to ensure his place in the circuit history book.
Before that, the circuit faces two days of action packed racing as the British Motorcycle Racing Club takes charge with a wide array of machinery lining up for championship action. Maria Costello will be racing in the Triumph Speed Triple Challenge while in the Powerbike Championship, which has an over-subscribed entry, keep an eye out for top riders Steve Jordan and Stephen Thompson.
Liam Lyon, who narrowly missed out on the Supersport 600 title last term is back for more, and determined to go one better with a winning start to this campaign but he needs to be mindful of the challenge coming in from last years' Supersport 400 title winner James Wainwright who is aboard a Triumph Daytona.
Superteen action, bringing in the ‘stars of tomorrow,' adds to the programme which also features big, high powered production bikes in the Pirelli-Metzeler MRO Superstock 1000 Championship, but for many, the key attraction will be seeing Reeves and Farrance in action as they bid for a winning double to the start of their British title defence.
Adult admission to each of the three days is £12 with accompanied children aged 15 years and under free. Car parking is free.
