"Music in the Park" - 14 September 2008 - Spital Park, Castle Donington and Official Opening of the new Community Hall and Sports Changing Rooms"
Preparation for this year's Music the Park is well underway and aims to be bigger and even better than before!!!!
It will be held on Sunday, 14 September, starting at 12 noon, with an extravaganza of music and entertainment at Spital Park, Castle Donington. This event is based on the highly successful event held by NWLDC at Coalville over the last ten years.
The event will also promote the official opening of the new half million pound project for a new community hall and sports changing rooms with Mr David Taylor MP undertaking this duty. This project was completed with the help and funding of the Football Foundation and locally by the NWLDC and the Parish Council, Castle Donington football and rugby clubs and other grants from BIFFA and East Midlands Airport.
The emphasis for the day is a fun, family afternoon with bands and music for all. The line-up for the day will include the well known and high acclaimed Leicester Co-op Band; Toxic - a group of young 16 year old lads; the Paradise Steel Band; the Murkins - a well known local band and ending the day with the highly renowned Judy Nicol Swing Band. Judy Nicol herself having played in major bands such Midlands Big Band, the Nottingham Symphonic Winds, Bardi Wind Orchestra, etc. The Band has also toured Germany recently.
"Music in the Park" is to be major event in the calendar of events that the Parish Council puts on for the benefit of the Community: others include the Mediaeval May Market in May, the Annual Wakes in October and a "Celebration of Christmas Cheer" in December. Last years Music in the Park was a huge success with Rolls Royce Band a local youth Street Dancing Band highlighting entertaining for the day.

The Parish Council has been lucky enough this year to be given a substantial donation from Livenation, the company that put Download on at Donington Park, to put on a musical event for the Community - this type of donation also went to Melbourne and other charities too! The donation will bolster the small money set aside by the Parish Council to put on an even better and more professional afternoon of entertainment. A major stage and sound system from Chameleon wil be used, by the local Radio Station Carillon will be principal MC for the afternoon's entertainment.
Along with the wide variety of music, there will be entertainment for the children, including a bouncy castle, small fair ride, face painting, sports mascots, etc. A variety of refreshment outlets will there for your enjoyment too. However - the main emphasis is "bring your own picnic". Come along with your own tables, chairs, picnics and drinks and set up for an afternoon of entertainment.
During the day there will football and rugby displays, with guided tours of the brand new Community Building. Local village charities and groups will be asked to attend to promote themselves. As an added attraction, the all new East Midlands Air Ambulance who will be sited at Spital Park for the afternoon. They will be based on site for the whole afternoon (barring a shout!) highlighting the fantastic work of a major local charity.
