Kedleston Hall Jacobite Rebellion Re-enacted - 18/19 July
| Published: 3rd July 2009 13:27 |

Visitors to the National Trust's Kedleston Hall can travel back in time on the weekend of 18th and 19th July when the 1745 Jacobite Rebellion is re-enacted in the parkland. Those attending the event will be able to visit the opposing camps, meet 18th century troops and civilians, and watch drills and a skirmish during the afternoon.
During the rebellion Bonnie Prince Charlie's Jacobite troops marched south from Scotland, reaching Derby before being turned back by the English army. During their retreat in December 1745 Jacobite troops came to Kedleston (the previous house, built c.1703) looking for horses and supplies. At the same time, they abandoned a mortar cannon which is now on display in the Hall.
Visitor Services Manager, Laura Waters, said:
"This is a fantastic event for visitors of all ages with plenty to see during the action packed weekend. We're delighted to welcome back Lace Wars to recreate this significant chapter in Kedleston's history."
Lace Wars is a not-for-profit historical re-enactment group, recreating the life and times of the mid-18th century, with particular emphasis on the 1745 Jacobite Rising. This will be their fourth annual visit to Kedleston Hall.
This year's event takes place on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 July from 10am - 6pm. Normal park admission charges apply. Visitors, especially those with animals and/or small children, should note that gunpowder will be fired at selected times.
