Dragon On The Loose at Snibston - Sat 19 April
| Published: 2nd April 2008 22:15 |

Snibston is holding a special dragon themed day from 10am - 3pm on Saturday 19th April to celebrate St George's Day.
There are plenty of family activities throughout the day including making a lair for Snibston's very own dragon. The poor homeless beast has been lurking around the old colliery tunnels for some time but needs a warmer place to call his own, and more importantly somewhere to stash his gold.
Bill Brookman and his ‘tall' friends will help visitors to decorate the lair to make it truly suitable for the Snibston Serpent. There will also be a procession to mark the unveiling of the den with giant bubbles and balloons and music.
Other activities include storytelling by Sophie Snell who will be telling tales in the Fashion Gallery about dragons, myths and legends which will suit all ages and is free to attend.
Children (and parents if they're feeling brave) are encouraged to come in fancy dress for a chance to win a special prize - Snibston hope to see crowds of knights, princesses and dragons around the museum but are not expecting any battles! There will also be the opportunity to have faces painted to match your costume. Additional costs apply.
There's also a themed craft activity with the Snibston rangers who will be making dazzling dragonflies with visitors and then taking participants on a guided walk around the nature reserve in the hope of spotting some real examples. Sessions run at 10.30 and 1.30pm and tickets cost £3 per child, please pre-book to avoid disappointment by calling 01530 278444.
Finally the fun will conclude with a parade including clog and garland dancers and St George and the Dragon - a mummers play put on by Bill Brookman Productions.
Tickets for dragon lair building are £3 per child and do not include admission to the museum. Storytelling takes place in the Fashion Gallery and is free but does not include access to other parts of the museum.
