Take a Closer Look at Kedleston Hall - April
| Published: 4th April 2008 12:32 |
Visitors to the National Trust's Kedleston Hall are invited to discover more of the state rooms and collections by following a popular self-guided trail.
The Closer Look trail takes visitors on a tour of the magnificent state floor, highlighting objects that are not always visible to the public and revealing some of the Hall's hidden features.
Because of a major restoration project in the State Apartment, the tour has been slightly amended this year. Visitors this season can see conservation in action as this suite of four rooms is returned to its late 18th century appearance. During April, skilled decorators are re-painting the Ante Room, Dressing Room, Bedroom and Wardrobe using historical paints and original colours.
Kedleston Hall's House Steward, Craig Bannister explains: "The Closer Look trail is a great opportunity to discover some of Kedleston's secrets. Visitors can look inside some of our historic furniture, peek through doorways and down staircases and also see how work is progressing as we continue to restore the State Apartment."
Kedleston Hall was built from 1759 - 1765. Designed by architect Robert Adam, it retains its great collections of paintings, sculpture and original furniture on the spectacular state floor. Visitors can also enjoy 820 acres of park and pleasure grounds, also designed by Adam and providing a haven for a variety of wildlife.
The self-guided trail runs from 19 - 23 April between 12 noon and 4.15pm. Trail sheets are available from Marble Hall Reception. Normal admission charges apply.
