The trees that surround the National Trust's Kedleston Hall are a key feature of the historic parkland and visitors have an opportunity to discover more about Kedleston's woodlands and how they are managed by attending the first in a summer series of guided walks in the parkland.
This months walk will start with a stroll into the north of the park to see the remains of a medieval hunting forest containing many veteran oak trees. The route will then cross the Mercaston Brook and climb Harepit Hill to survey the surrounding parkland. The walk will cover a distance of approximately 2 miles.
Simon Hiley, the National Trust's Head Warden at Kedleston, said: "This walk is an excellent opportunity for visitors to discover the history and significance of the woodlands at Kedleston Hall, see some of the wildlife they support and find out why large parts of the park have been designated as Sites of Special Scientific Interest."
The woodland walk will take place on Wednesday 14th May at 7pm. Further walks on 11 June and 9 August will focus on Kedleston's wetlands and archaeology. Tickets cost £7 per person, per walk and must be booked in advance on 01332 842191. A glass of wine or juice is included. Please enter the park via the gate at Village Lodge and wear walking boots, waterproofs and warm clothing.
