Kenstud Pony Rescue is one of the few registered equine rescue charities in Derbyshire.

Owning your own horse or pony is a big responsibility requiring time, money and commitment. Unfortunately, because of these factors, some horses and ponies suffer from neglect.

Kenstud Pony Rescue was founded in 1998 by Lesley Manger, who at the time worked in an equine shop in Derbyshire. She found that many people had seen cases of neglect in the area and were asking her to do something about the problem.

Lesley, who has worked with horses and ponies for many years, took up the challange to set up a rescue charity in order to help people who were clearly struggling with the day to day care of horses and ponies.

The first two horses came from the RSPCA, in a very distressed state. They were immediately given veterinary attention, rest and plenty of tender loving care into their retirement for 18 months when they sadly passed away. Several other cases were to follow, some of whom are in retirement at Kenstud Rescue today.

Equine neglect happens all too frequenty and Kenstud Pony Rescue aims to help people who are struggling with the care of their equine friend. Whilst Lesley Manger is always happy to offer advice and visit special cases, Kenstud Pony rescue can only take in horses and ponies that are in real trouble.

If you know someone who is struggling to care for their horse or pony or have seen animals in distressed circumstances please contact Kenstud Pony Rescue on: 01773 831251.
