MORE FROM ANIMALS IN ASIA

FRIENDS ......OR FOOD?

Thousands of dogs and cats are brutally slaughtered for food every day in live animal markets across Asia. As Animals in Asia continue to investigate this horrific trade, it's difficult not to feel helpless and overwhelmed by the immense scale of the cruelty.
Animals in Asia believe that education is the key to ending their misery and is tackling the problem in a unique way.

Dog eating has been practiced in China for centuries. Animals in Asia believe that attitudes to dog eating are ripe for change. Their recent survey on China's largest internet portal - Sina.com - had over 5,000 responses and showed that many Chinese people are passionately against the idea of eating our 'best friends'
Animals in Asia now have a strategy to reach out to these dog lover's with a film so that they can give them the voice they need to create change from within. Already thousands of film packs are being distributed to pet clubs which are now mushrooming throughout China.
With 2 million Mainland Chinese tourists visiting Hong Kong every month, they have also launched a billboard campaign to convey that the majority of Hong Kong people are against the consumption of dogs and cats and inspire these visitors to reconsider their attitudes.
Animals Asia have recently taken on a brand new role as, Professors; to teach Chinese primary school children about the importance of companion animals, compassion for all living creatures and responsible pet care. The initial pilot programme sees over 300 children in Hong Kong taking part in the sepcially designed lessions.
Animals in Asia are woking with advertising agencies to devise various advertisements to target China and Hong Kong.
They have also exposed 'Parknshop' (Hong Kong's leading supermarket chain) for selling dog meat in their stores in Southern China and persuading them to enforce a 'no dog meat sale' rule.

Please help Animals in Asia spread and instill their ideas so that millions of cats and dogs who lie forgotten and suffering in the markets can become a thing of the past. Together, with your help, we can give dogs and cats a voice and strive for the day when we are all united in the belief that they are our friends ...... and not food!
