A research team at a Devon university is trying to discover whether thinking happy thoughts can make you healthier. Researchers at the University of Plymouth are looking for volunteers to help them find out whether you can think yourself happy. Volunteers are being asked to take part in an online survey. It will involve three techniques; thinking about things you are grateful for, thinking about achievements and questioning negative thoughts. Professor Michael Hyland, who is leading the research, said: "Despite the technological advances of our modern world, people often feel unhappy. "Psychologists have found that there are simple ways everyone can improve their mood, but people are often unaware." Each technique involves about 10 minutes a day of pleasant mental activity which researchers have all been found to be effective in the past. | |
