Clean And Green Community Day Set To Improve Local Park
There's an opportunity for families to help do their bit for local play facilities and open spaces this weekend as Teignbridge Council and Tepee (Teignbridge Play Network) host a ‘Clean and Green' community day in the Buckland area of Newton Abbot.
The event takes place at Sandringham Park, Buckland on Sunday 25th May between 10am and 2pm. Accompanied by Teignbridge's Countryside Rangers and Play Rangers, local families can help clean up part of the park and create a new natural space for environmental play. The process will involve bramble and nettle clearing, with equipment and assistance provided by the Countryside Rangers.
There will be free refreshments on offer and the Play Rangers will be on hand to help supervise and play with children.
Cllr Gordon Hook, Teignbridge Executive Spokesperson for Environmental Services said:
"This is a great opportunity for local people to make a real difference for the benefit of their whole community. The day promises to be lots of fun for young and old alike, and hopefully by the end of it we'll have a fantastic new space for young people to play in.
"I'm looking forward to seeing the results of this special day, which I'm sure will help improve the quality of the park and provide a whole new space for recreational activities."
The Play Rangers are funded with Big Lottery money which was secured by Teignbridge Council. The Play Rangers have been employed in partnership with Tepee to deliver and improve play activities in local parks to enable young people to play freely. Over the past year they have been bringing the fun to parks in Buckfastleigh and Buckland, and currently have plans to start working in the Teignmouth area in September.
Theo Tanser, Project Co-ordinator for Tepee said:
"The Play Rangers scheme has proven really popular over the past year, and we're looking forward to another year of top quality activities in more local parks.
"This special Clean and Green community day will benefit the whole community, ensuring that any debris is properly cleared and that children are even safer when playing in the park."
