The four techniques I use to create permanent cosmetic lip enhancements are:

• Barely there lip line definer - this defines the natural lip contour and is created in a similar colour to the natural lips. This enhancement is discrete and visible only at close view.
• Impact lip line definer - this defines and if preferred extends passed the natural lip contour to give definition and fullness to the lip. This lip enhancement is usually created in a contrasting colour to the natural lips and gives a lip line make-up look.
• Lip blush - this defines and if preferred extends passed the natural lip contour to give natural definition and fullness to the lip. The effect is complimented by shading that is blended softly towards the interior of the lip.
• Full lip tint - this defines and if preferred extends passed the natural lip contour to give natural definition and fullness to the lip. The effect is complimented by infusing lip colour across the entire body of the lip using the interaction of light and shade to create a three dimensional look that gives additional volume to the lips, whilst achieving a long lasting veil of colour that appears totally natural.

The full lip tint enhancement also has a remarkable anti-ageing effect on pale lips that have lost their colour and lip line sharpness due to the ageing process. Combined with its discreet lip contour definition the permanent cosmetic full lip tint gives natural looking, subtly full lips.

Everyone's skin undertone tends to have a warmth or coolness to it. Warm skin will have golden, peachy undertones whilst cool skin has pink, purple, olive and ash undertones.

Generally warmer lip colours or those with a hint of yellow and orange will suit a warm skin tone - think cappuccino, caramel and browns with suggestion of gold or bronze. For cool skins, lip colours in the blue - pink spectrum are good compliments - think classic beiges with pink undertones, soft rose pinks, blue-toned reds, raisin, burgundy and chocolates.

You are of course part of the decision making process and you will generally be recommend to select from lip colours that look natural with your skin colouring. For an evening look you can always take your daytime lip colour up a notch by using a gloss or lipstick with a richer colour intensity.

• Fine eyeliner - this is shaded through and extends beyond the eyelashes to create a precision fine line. Black brown is the most popular shade, with the eyeliner on the upper eyelid being applied a little darker than that on the lower eyelid.
• Thick and ultra thick eyeliner - this is shaded through and broadens beyond the eyelashes to create a wider contour. The upper eyelid is classically thicker on the outer eye and tapers into the lash line toward the inner eye. The eyeliner on the lower eyelid is shaded through the lash line and is applied a little thicker on the outer eye, tapering in and becoming softer toward the nose.

Unlimited colour choice

The colour choices for permanent cosmetic eyeliner is unlimited and includes soft colours, daring colours, multiple and graduated colours.

For classic eyeliner people tend to choose black, brown - back, brown and charcoal. However accent colours can also be used to match or contrast the colour of the eyes or to bring out certain flecks of colour in the iris. There are many ways to utilize accent colours which are applied in addition to the classic colours.

Eyeliner colour is generally faded out close to the inner eye (nearest the nose) in order to achieve for a softer appearance.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. 1. Are permanent cosmetics a form of tattoo?
   
   Yes, although during permanent cosmetic procedures the pigment is not deposited as deeply in the skin.
   
   2.  What happens during the procedure?
   
   During a detailed consultation, together the specialist and the client evaluate the most suitable colours and shape to be created. A topical anaesthetic is applied to the area and the desired shape is drawn with conventional cosmetics. The pigment is then carefully implanted into the skin. Most procedures take about one hour. One retouch procedure is usually required and included in the initial cost.
   
   3. Will it hurt
2. This depends entirely on each client, and their 'pain threshold'. the sensation could be described as between
3. uncomfortable'. to painfull  For a client who is having treatment on a delicate or painful area, or with a low pain threshold the therapist will recommend taking Paracetamol an hour before treatment to dull the nerve endings.
   
4. Topical anaesthetic is used to reduce the pricking sensation felt.
   
   4. What is the recovery time?

For between four to six hours, the area treated will be slightly reddened and swollen. However, due to water retention, the eyelids can remain puffy for up to forty-eight hours in around fifty percent of cases.

Four around four to seven days, the pigmentation will appear somewhat obvious, dark and intense. After this the epidermis (top layer) flakes and peels off leaving the colour softer.

There may be some swelling and redness that usually subsides over 48 hours. Most normal activities can be resumed immediately.

5. Is there a chance of infection?

Only sterile needles are used for each procedure and are disposed of immediately on termination of treatment. The highest standards of hygiene are maintained at all times.

6. What about allergic reactions?

Tattoo pigments have been used for thousands of years and reaction is very rare. Finishing touches pigments are the highest grade and are hypoallergenic.

7.   Is allergy Testing Necessary?

The risks of an allergic reaction to the colour pigments are slim; however I feel that a test should always be carried out at least one week prior to the treatment

8. Can I wear conventional makeup over my permanent enhancement?

Yes, permanent cosmetics are designed to be an enhancement of natural features. Wearing traditional make-up is a personal choice.

9.  Will it look natural?

Permanent makeup is designed for daytime wear Moderation is recommended at all times, as once its there, you cannot take it off!

To add a touch of .glamour for the evening adds some extra make up.

10.   After care

For the first two to three days it is advisable to apply an antibiotic cream or ointment

Cosmetics: Do not use for the first few days thereafter may be used but care must be taken in their removal i.e. very gently, rubbing must be avoided

Sunbathing and tanning beds: must be avoided for at least ten days.

Water: Avoid prolonged contact with water i.e. showers, bath, swimming and sauna for up to six days.

Itchiness: this is a sign that the treatment is healing. On no account should the flakes of skin and tiny scabs that form be scratched or picked as this will remove the colour. The flakes fall off at around day six.

Colour: the pigmentation will appear very obvious, dark and intense for up to one week. The skin will then flake or peel and the colour will look lighter and softer. It will lighten still further before stabilizing after a month.
