MATES TAKE A LEAP OF FAITH FOR CHILDREN'S CANCER CHARITY

A trio of friends from Dorset will be taking to the skies on Saturday 20th June and parachuting 10,000 feet to raise money for children's cancer charity CLIC Sargent - a cause close to their hearts.

Dan Holbeche, Steve Hunt and Danielle Greene will be taking part in their first ever skydives in support of the charity which has been helping Dan in his fight against cancer. Dan, 21 years old from Kinson, was diagnosed with cancer in March 2008 and had surgery at Southampton General Hospital. However further check-ups revealed that the cancer had returned in November 2008 and Dan had to undergo chemotherapy. His treatment meant he had to spend the Christmas and New Year break in hospital.

"As soon as I felt well enough I wanted to get involved in fundraising and repay CLIC Sargent for the help and support they have given me," says Dan. "My CLIC Sargent Youth Development Worker Lizzie visited me on the ward and gave my DVDs to watch and games to play to take my mind off things. It was great to have a friendly face on the ward and someone I could talk to. They also organised for me to spend a day at the Royal Albert Hall meeting celebs like Matt Horne, James Corden and Noel Fielding which was a brilliant experience!"

Dan is now off treatment and has persuaded his friends Steve Hunt and Danielle Greene to join him on the skydive at a Salisbury airfield. His target is to raise £1,000 in sponsorship for the jump which is enough for CLIC Sargent to send a family on a relaxing week-long break away from the ward at Malcolm Sargent House in Ayrshire.

"I've always wanted to do a skydive and when I realised I could do it for CLIC Sargent it was a no-brainer really! I would love to reach my target of raising £1,000 to help other young people with cancer," adds Dan.

CLIC Sargent helps children and young people with cancer and their families with the trauma of diagnosis, the often long journey through treatment... and continues to support them afterwards.
