‘Confident pupils' and ‘dedicated teachers' help St Edward's School achieve another ‘good' Ofsted result

Author: Online Stories Published: 12th June 2017 16:15

Based on Dale Valley Road, the school which is open to all abilities educates more than one thousand students from the ages of 11 to 18 years old.

Rated ‘good' in May, the result has stayed consistent since its last inspection in 2013. Ofsted Inspectors' comments included: "Pupils are confident, well behaved and proud of their school. They know they can rely on the support of their teachers," "teachers are dedicated and committed," "sixth form students speak highly of the quality of teaching and support they receive from their teachers," "pupils' attitudes to learning are excellent, and play a significant part in their good progress," and "excellent relationships exist at all levels."

Mr Michael Antram, headteacher at St Edward's School, is delighted with the result. He said: "Inspectors were able to see for themselves the excellent climate for learning at St Edward's, the warm relationships between staff and students, the dedication and commitment of teachers, and the contribution made by all staff in building a school that is rapidly developing and improving towards being outstanding."

St Edward's School is supported by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Plymouth and the Church of England Diocese of Salisbury. The school promotes a happy and hard-working, learning community supported by a Christian ethos where opportunities for enrichment enable preparation for life ahead.

Lowri Bradley, Year 10 student and deputy member of Youth Parliament, added: "At St Edward's every students' learning is tailored for them and the teachers always take time with each of us so that we achieve to the best of our ability all of the time."
