Wave 105, the south's leading radio station, hosted their first fundraising activity for the charity Wave 105 cash for Kids, with an exciting live on-air auction. The auction proved a great success, helping to raise over £42,000 which will go towards children across the region who are financially, socially, emotionally or physically disadvantaged.
The phones were ringing off the hook all day with listeners calling in to bid for some of the fantastic prizes. The biggest donation of the day was for £4,000, giving the lucky bidder the opportunity to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, with Rhys Jones, the youngest ever mountaineer to summit the highest peaks in all seven continents. Other ‘money can't buy' experiences, which included the chance to become a News Hound for the day at The Bournemouth Echo and the opportunity to view a film of your choice in Westbourne based Dawson's state-of-the-art cinema room, also proved extremely popular raising a combined amount of £100.
Connie Carroll, Wave 105's Charity Manager says; "We had such a variety of prizes from family tickets to the Oceanarium in Bournemouth to a limited edition James Bond t-shirt, which kept the bidding wars up throughout the day. We are overjoyed with the amount raised by the auction and want to say a huge thank you to the generous companies across the south for donating the prizes and to the listeners for placing bids. Even in this current economic climate it didn't deter people from digging deep into their pockets to donate money for this worthy cause. We hope the money raised will enable us to help disadvantaged children enjoy a happier Christmas and future."
Martin Ball, Managing Director at Wave 105, says, "The amount raised in just 24 hours was a fantastic achievement and testimony to both the generosity of our listeners and the appeal of our charity with its commitment to children exclusively in our region. I can't thank our listeners enough and I hope that they will continue to support our fundraising initiatives in the future."

The remaining funds will be used to provide grants for children across the south.
