Drugs can have a major impact, not only on the lives and families of those who take them, but also on local communities so it is reassuring to know there are many people working day in day out to tackle the problem in different ways.
Now the local council want to give local heros the chance to be recognised for their work with the recenlty launched Tackling Drugs Changing Lives Awards 2008.
This is where you come in - if you know an individual or team in who deserves to be recognised for their life changing work please make sure you nominate them for an award. They could receive £10,000 for their organisation to spend on the prevention or treatment of drug misuse.
Two awards are available, one for an individual and one for a team, each winner will receive £10,000 for their organisation to spend on the prevention or treatment of drug misuse.
Nominations can be made by completing an online nomination form which can be found at http://drugs.homeoffice.gov.uk/awards2008.
Ten finalists will be selected from across England and Wales and the two overall winners will be announced later in the year. Anyone can nominate a worker or team who have taken direct positive action to tackle drugs - from family, friends, colleagues to current and ex-service users. Nominations close on 31 August 2008.
The awards ceremony will be held later in the year, and an expert judging panel chaired by the Home Office will choose the finalists
