Hull Freedom Festival 2010 - A Review

Published: 12th September 2010 08:02

Freedom Festival this weekend saw thousands flock to Hulls Marina and Queens Gardens, but what did I think?

Unfortunately for me, the day did not live up to the expectations i had! The last time i went to Freedom Festival was in 2008, when the crowd was merely hundreds, not thousands! It's safe to say in the last two years, the festival has had a major increase in popularity. This could be a good thing, however for those of us who were stuck a mile away from all the action, where it was almost impossible to hear anything on the stage, the atmosphere was of pure boredom, definitely not the excitement and fun i had two years ago!

Another disappointment for me was one of the main reasons i went to Freedom Festival to begin with - McFly! When McFly came on stage, i have to say i was relatively excited. However, this soon disappeared five minutes later - when they left the stage! I hoped to see more than a 5 minute set, and I'm sorry to say that after this our mood's were low and it wasn't long before we retreated home!

However if you happened to spend the day in Queens Gardens, the atmosphere was much more upbeat. The crowd wasn't so big that you couldn't see the stage, or get involved in what was going on. Everybody was dancing and it was a much better atmosphere than that at Marina!

I would of loved to stick around and see 'Monster Madness', Foals, and the fireworks, but unfortunately for me the day was very long and for me, disappointing and boring alot of the time. I'm sure many people will disagree and say they had a fantastic time!

I can only hope next year will return to the smaller, more intimate festival it once was. A stage purely for local unsigned bands wouldn't go amiss!

But what did you think??
