"Let's celebrate the best of what East Yorkshire has to offer" says MP

Graham Stuart, MP for Beverley and Holderness, is urging people to nominate examples of retailing excellence across the constituency for the Seventh Annual Countryside Alliance Awards.

The Countryside Alliance Awards were created to support and promote rural communities, and nicknamed the ‘Rural Oscars'. The awards celebrate the dedication of people working in rural Britain's food and farming industry, where small businesses, traditional skills and forward-thinking enterprises are the backbone of the East Riding.

Graham said: "These awards recognise the unsung businessmen and women in our community who work hard to promote rural life.

"Our local produce is second to none and there are many community heroes and businesses worthy of national acclaim."

The MP continued: "The deadline for submissions is fast approaching. I urge people to get involved and nominate today so we can celebrate the best of what East Yorkshire has to offer. The voting process is decided by local people who know better than anyone what deserves recognition."

The Awards run across the following categories:
1. Local Food Awards
2. Daily Telegraph Village Shop/Post Office Awards
3. Enterprise Awards
4. Butcher Award
5. Hunter Rural Hero

Nominations can be submitted online at Countryside Alliance Awards until Friday 21 October. Regional winners will be announced in early 2012 and invited to the grand final at the House of Lords in March 2012, where overall champions will be declared. Past winners, judging regions and judging criteria are also online.
