DALEK INVASION AT NORTH BRIDLINGTON LIBRARY
Doctor Who fever gripped North Bridlington Library over the school holidays as one of the Time Lord's greatest nemeses visited the town.
More than 150 children were entertained by a life-sized dalek, which took up residence in the library thanks to a partnership with Extended Schools, and had the opportunity to have photographs taken with it before being warned: "Read more books or be exterminated."
The event brought in many new borrowers to the library service with Doctor Who books being snapped up by eager young fans.
The week also included Dr Who actor Dale Ibbotson telling stories from the programme as well as some of his own adventures filming the TV series and recording the audio books.
Children also created their own aliens and monsters in a junk-modelling workshop and the week was rounded off with a Dr Who reading challenge where children taking part have to read four books over four weeks before discussing them at the library to win Dr Who themed prizes.
There are still places available on the challenge and anyone interested should drop in or call North Bridlington Library on: (01262) 671468.
Library Supervisor Paul Hughes said, "The week has been a great success. The staff worked hard organizing these events but they have had as much fun as the many adults and children that took part. The events have also encouraged everyone to take out and read more books."
