3rd Hornsea 1/3 Marathon Road Race
| Published: 20th March 2010 07:57 |

Runners, both local and from outside of our area will remember previous 1/3 marathons organised by the Hornsea Rotary Club. The event is being repeated for the third time and will take place at 11am on Sunday 11th April.
There will also be a shorter fun run starting at 10am.
We provide a race to satisfy all levels of ability. The winner of the men's race, for the last two years, is a local athlete who competes at national level and many runners use our race as a "sharpener" for the London marathon. At the other extreme there are ladies and gentlemen, of all ages, who have never run the distance before in their lives. They were on a personal challenge such as: raising funds for the charity "Marie Curie Cancer Care", or as part of a keep fit regime or they are simply looking add a new achievement to their list. In the middle of the ability range are all the running club athletes who simply want a good day out and a satisfying race; often followed by an enjoyable day in Hornsea with their family.
The single loop circuit on quiet and undulating country roads is just less than 9 miles and fulfils the requirements of all who enter.
Applications are coming in for the 2010 run and the numbers are now far higher than past years, giving the promise of a large field. As previously, all profits go to the local branch of Marie Curie Cancer Care. This money will be spent in the local area and we hope to exceed the previous record of £5000. Fund raising for such an event is made easier when there is a main sponsor who will pay for all the expenses.

This year we are extremely fortunate because the Hornsea Rotary Club is pleased to announce that The Cooperative Society has taken over the role of principle sponsor for the Fun Run.
The main sponsor for the Hornsea Third is Neil Hudgell (Solicitors) who is sharing the role with two local companies, Roger Gough Associates and Ralph Toogood Kitchens.
Entry forms are available at the Hornsea Leisure Centre and Café 10 in Hornsea Market Place; they can also be obtained on line from: angus.robinson@virgin.net
Entries on the day are also permissible provided that our maximum number has not been reached.
Race Headquarters is in the barn at Densholme Farm, Great Hatfield, HU11 4UX (next to Wrygarth Inn) and car parking is on the paddock attached to the farm. Denys Fell, who owns the organic farm, is part of the National Care Farming Initiative. This is an arrangement were schools and interested organisations can book educational visits. The Prince of Wales has invited Denys, together with other members of National Care Farms, to a reception at Highgrove.
Rob Prince will be there again selling hot and cold drinks together with freshly made hot food.
