| Appletree Nursery
Applecross Nursery is nestled in the Ostler Valley and has been a family run business for nearly thirty years. We are a nursery and not a garden centre and have no aspiration to be so. We are always happy to give you the benefit of our expert knowledge and on the plants we grow and sell. Originally started as a nursery to produce young fruit trees for the neighbouring growers, we quickly grew into what we are now, a nursery that grows a huge selection of plants to provide colour and structure in the garden all year round. Over the last 25 years we have built up a huge range of conifers including slow growing ornamental, and dwarf varieties. There are now more than 250 varieties listed at our nursery. Cupressus LeylandiiThuja, cultivars, Chamaecyparis Lawsoniana cultivars and Cupressus Leylandii are all excellent hedging plants. These provide wonderful nesting sites for many small birds. However, care should be taken when using fast gorwing varieties as they can easily get out of control. For small boundary hedges, it is better to use one of the slower growing types. We have a well stocked display in the nursery and all are welcome to stroll around and gain inspiration from these excellent garden plants. Box Hedge
We also stock a variety of hedge plants, to suit most needs. For small hedges we can supply Buxus sempervirins (box) which grow from 2-5 feet high and takes to clipping well. It is slow growing so it doesn't need a lot of cutting. It can stand quite a bit of shade.Taxus baccata (Yew) and Fagus Syvatica (Beech) make good slow growing hedges. Yew is an evergreen whereas Beech is not but it does hang onto its russet-brown dead leaves in winter. Both grow between the 5-8 feet range and provides good looking hedges. Ligustrum ovalifolium (Privet) is one of the well know hedge varieties and is very hardy and will be able to withstand a lot of abuse. Only in really severe winters will it lose some of its leaves. Delphinium
Our herbacious plants provide the traditional type of midsummer borders ablaze with colour such as Delphinium and Lupins. Hostas
We have a selection of summer and autumn bedding plants. These include the evergreen perennials such as hellebors, hevchera, borgenia. Hardy perennials, hostas and delphiniums and half-hardy perennials such as pelargoniums and fuchsias are ideal for tubs and patios. We also supply plant related sundries such as potting and planting composts, mulches, fertilizers, tree stakes and ties and an excellent range of terracotta containers. All our plants we offer are of good quality, healthy and true to name. Given good care and attention should give lasting satisfaction. We are open seven days a week from 8.00 a.m. - 5.00 p.m. |
