Sussex Autistic Community Trust - Charity No. 1052881
The Sussex Autistic Community Trust is an independent, not for profit organisation, formed in 1989. The Trust's aim is to provide a range of opportunities for adults with autistic spectrum disorders and to promote and provide individualised quality services based on understanding the needs of people with Autistic Spectrum Disorders.
In the workshop
The Trust provides services across Sussex, with the Headquarters situated in Tills Courtyard, just off Battle High Street. These premises also house a resource centre for people who are more severely affected by autism; many of whom have additional learning disabilities and find interaction with other people very difficult.
At Play
It is estimated that 126,820 people in Sussex have an autistic spectrum disorder, with 4 times as many males affected than females. People with autism experience deficits in social interaction, imagination and communication, which results in poor social skills, isolation, problems in securing or maintaining employment and a likelihood of being harassed and bullied.
At work on the computer
SACT currently supports 70+ people across Sussex, whose levels of ability ranges from severe learning disabilities to people with Asperger who are working. The Trust has successfully provided support and services to adults on the autistic spectrum for over 18 years and develops services in response to individual need. SACT provides and promotes person centred services driven by excellence, forward thinking and progressive practice, which aims to enhance the lives of individuals on the Autistic Spectrum.
