Christmas tree recycling at Camber Sands
We want your trees!
Rye Rangers use old trees to help stabilise the sand dunes at Camber. The trees do not grow on the dunes, but are placed horizontally to trap windblown sand and help prevent erosion of the dune ridges.
Please come along and donate your old tree to help this unique recycling project.
Whole trees only - no cuttings or holly, please.Trees can be donated between 10am-1pm, Saturday 5 January 2008 at:
Central car park, Old Lydd Road, Camber
Tanhouse Furniture, Peasmarsh (near Jempsons supermarket).
For more information, contact Rye Bay Countryside Office -

Christmas tree recycling
Compost your Christmas tree at home or put it in the green garden waste bin at any household waste recycling site.
Hastings and St Leonards
Christmas trees can be taken to Harmers Lane, Alexandra Park from 29 December 2007 to 13 January 2008
Rother
In the Rother area (which includes Bexhill, Battle and Rye) Christmas trees can be taken to any recycling point between 7 - 18 January 2008.
Rother residents who are included on Rother District Council's green garden waste collection service can place broken up Christmas trees in their green waste wheeled bin for composting once green waste collections resume in January 2008
Subsidised Composting
Don't forget for 2008, as a resident of Rother you are entitled to buy composters and wormery bins at subsidised prices (Note the wormery leaflet dates from March 07, but is still valid). What about a Green Johanna or a Green Cone at vastly reduced prices if you live in the TN33 postcode. Why not check out how to obtain them from your local garden centre, or the suppliers, at ESCC website and change your habits for the coming year.
Christmas card / wrapping paper recycling
High street branches of W H Smith, all large Tesco supermarkets, Marks and Spencers, and TK Maxx stores are taking part in The Woodland Trust's christmas card recycling scheme. You can place your cards in the special boxes provided in store between 2-31 January 2008.
Take your cards to Sainsbury's supermarket where special boxes will be provided in store until mid-January 2008.
Put cards in the cardboard or newspaper/magazine bins at household waste recycling sites.
Hastings and St Leonards residents who are covered by Hastings Borough Council's twin wheelie bin collection service, can place Christmas cards with their recycling.
You may like to re-use cards by turning them into gift tags for presents or decorative paper chains.
Non-metallic wrapping paper with sticky tape removed can be recycled in the newspaper/magazine bins at household waste recycling sites.
You may also like to save the paper and re-use it the following year, or try composting it at home.
Electrical and hazardous waste
Of all waste types, electrical waste is growing the fastest. Much of this can be recycled. In 2007 new laws mean retailers and manufacturers are responsible for dealing with electrical goods once they become waste. They will be encouraged to make longer lasting, repairable and recyclable electrical goods as well as pay for more recycling sites for consumers.
WEEE regulations
Waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) must now be separated from other types of household waste, at our recycling sites. Find out more about the new regulations about WEEE.
Fridges and freezers
By law all CFC gases used in refrigeration equipment has to be removed and destroyed before the main unit is recycled or disposed of. For more about these regulations see the Dept for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) website.
