Volunteer Opportunities - October
Old Hastings Preservation Society need regular and occasional volunteers to help open up the Hastings History House at 21 Courthouse Street, help visitors with enquiries and develop projects. The History House is presently open on Thursday mornings and some weekends. New volunteers would be welcome to come along to one of the sessions. Triumph Over Phobia (TOPUK) are a small mental health charity helping people with the debilitating disorders of phobia and obsessive compulsive disorder to overcome their fears. They would like to set up a new group in this area and are looking for people who can spare one evening a week to make a real difference to the lives of people suffering from anxiety. Cancer Research UK are seeking local people to get involved in a range of roles to raise money for cancer research and promote their work. They are looking for people to become Walk Organisers to arrange sponsored walks. The role is to organise the walk from start to finish including deciding the route and date, promotion and publicity, recruiting individuals and groups to participate, seeking sponsorship and overseeing the event. Volunteers will need to be passionate about the work of Cancer Research UK, have good communication, influencing skills, creativity and flair, have practical skills and be able to work in a team. The role requires a commitment of 1-2 days a week in the months leading up to the event. Support is provided by Ryan Bromley, Area Volunteer Organiser for East Sussex, who will provide the guidance required to be successful in this role. Volunteers are urgently required for gap year placements with Community Service Volunteers (CSV). Incredible people are needed to be full time volunteers for up to a year supporting a wide range of people needing help or support. This may include assisting kids with disabilities at a special needs school, supporting people with learning difficulties in a day care centre, helping run a homeless shelter, enabling a disabled person to live independently in their own home. In particular they are looking for volunteers to support students with disabilities at UK Universities helping with tasks such as taking lecture notes, helping students get out socially and providing support with household tasks and personal care. CSV Volunteers move away from home and are provided with accommodation, training and support, along with money to live on and the opportunity to be part of a large team of volunteers across the UK.
