Rother Gets Ready to Get Running

2008 is looking like being a bumper year for local runners as well as individuals looking to get fit. Bexhill Runners in conjunction with Rother District Council are extending their current Seafront Series to include a Bexhill Community Fun Run on the evening of Wednesday July 30th and a Poppy Half Marathon on Sunday 9th November. The Seafront Series has proved very popular in recent years and the additional events are particularly aimed at widening opportunities for the people living in Bexhill to get involved and promoting Bexhill. The Poppy Half Marathon also provides an opportunity to raise funds for the Royal British Legion to mark the 80th anniversary of the first Armistice Day at the end of the First World War in November 1918. Both the club and Rother District Council's Sports Development Officer are hoping that individuals and businesses will get behind the events.
This year's traditional Seafront Series will include 5K races on Wednesday 28th May and Wednesday 30th July (in the evenings) and a 10K race on Sunday 28th September.
Further details will be available in the coming months but anyone looking to get involved is urged to put the dates in their diaries. Businesses or community groups who may wish to link with the organisers should contact
info@bexhillrunners.co.uk or adrian.gaylon@rother.gov.uk.
In addition to the races in Bexhill, further races will also take place in Beckley, Rye Harbour and Ashburnham Place. The popular Beckley 10K which includes a fun run and children's race will take place on Sunday 21st September. The Rye Summer Classic Series will take place on 18th July, 22nd August and 12th Septemberstarting at Rye Harbour Sailing Club. The Christmas Pudding Dash will take place at Ashburnham Place on Saturday 20th December, with a Christmas Puds and a glass of mulled wine on offer for all finishers.
All the events in Rother, combined with the Hastings Half Marathon in March and the Centenary Marathon in December, will allow everyone in the Rother area to get running in 2008.
