Bexhill in Bloom
Bexhill in Bloom is the annual campaign to brighten and cultivate as many areas of Bexhill and its surroundings in an effort to make the area more beautiful. This is for two main reasons:
- To improve the surroundings for the benefit of the inhabitants and visitors to Bexhill and bring an extra bit of colour into everyone's life, and
- To enter into the South East in Bloom competition in the hope that the efforts of all towards Item 1 are recognised by the independent judges.
The Bexhill in Bloom campaign originated in 1991 and each year since there has been a campaign organised by a Bexhill in Bloom committee, chaired by Sandra Melvin.
In 2001 Bexhill was entered into the South East in Bloom competition and won the Best New Entry award. Bexhill has been entered into the regional competition ever since.
This year will be slightly different in that Bexhill is being entered into the category of Small Coastal Town.
We shouldn't lose sight of the fact that this is all part of a much larger overall campaign to improve a range of locations throughout the country which are entered into the national campaign of Britain in Bloom. You can check out what is happening via the link and maybe pick up some ideas for what you can do.
Do you have Green Fingers? If you are willing and interested in spending some time over the coming months to help improve a small area of public land would you like to help Bexhill in Bloom? Why not let us know of an area of ground which you think could do with some improving and we could ‘spotight' it for you. Giving some time to Bexhill in Bloom will not only give you personal satisfaction, but will benefit the whole community.
If you aren't quite as interested in the ‘hands on' experience, but you have other skills which may be of benefit please speak up and I am sure the Bexhill in Bloom chairperson, Sandra, would love to hear from you.

Why not suggest something specific which might indirectly assist Bexhill in Bloom such as a recycling project, conservation in a particular loction in Bexhill or litter picking?
