Tennis Opportunities for Bexhill Children
| Published: 29th May 2008 16:54 |
A successful tennis programme is happening again this year supported by Rother District Council, Bexhill Schools Consortium, Sussex Lawn Tennis Association, SKIL, Mastersport & Play and John O'Connor. This will see up to 100 children being given the opportunity to take part in coaching sessions and attend the Ladies International Tennis Event at Eastbourne. All Bexhill Consortium Schools are involved, with older students from Bexhill High and St Richards acting as mentors to younger pupils from the Primary Schools.
The first part of the programme starts on the afternoon of Thursday 29th and Friday 30th May, between 2pm and 4pm. Children attending the Eastbourne event have been offered the chance to book in and attend 2 free tennis sessions on the public courts at Egerton Park, one on each day. There is a chance to improve tennis skills and meet children from other schools.
This will be followed by a whole day at Eastbourne on Monday 16th June. The morning will include chances for youngsters to receive further coaching on the Kids Zone and watch tennis on the outside courts prior to visiting centre court in the afternoon.
Finally over the summer, linking to the Bexhill Activities Summer Programme, further tennis coaching will be offered on Monday mornings at Egerton Park. This group will have a further opportunity at the end of the summer, Sunday 31st August, to take part in an event to celebrate Devonshire Park being a venue for the 2012 Olympics, a week after the Official Beijing handover.
